DECEMBER 2009/JANUARY 2010

Well what a year 2009 has been!  When we began our mission to help the Mexican dogs, we never thought we would be able to make that much of a difference.  We thought if we could help a few dogs we would be satisfied with that.  Shortly after we began, we realized just how huge and overwhelming the need was to help these poor creatures.
In 2009 Meximutts was able to place 3 local Canadian rescues into loving homes and we were able to bring 27 dogs from Puerto Vallarta to Canada to start their new lives in Canada.  This was made possible due to the great support all of you gave us and of course from the travellers who choose to get involved to help make a difference.
In rescue there are always some ups and downs, but I think the most motivating was to see the tranformation of our little jewel, Bijou.  We were contacted by a Mexican family who had this dog living under their car.  They wanted us to come and get the dog and help him.  When Chelsea arrived, what she saw was so overwhelming that it brought her to tears.  She made Bijou a promise to do what she could for him.  After many vet visits, medicine and true love was given to this little man, Bijou began to recover from his wounds, both internal and external.  Once he came to Canada, Meximutts' foster mama fell in love with this boy and adopted him and promised as well to do all she could to make his life amazing.  Well, 6 months later and I think the photos show what a little money and a whole lot of love can do!  Bijou is a lucky boy and he knows it!

Adoptions for December included...

Picture
Penny was rescued months ago from the pound by a fellow rescue group, but because of the low adoption rate, they could not find her a forever home.  Upon meeting her we knew we could help her, so she made her way to Canada with us in mid November and was adopted in early December by a very nice lady who lives in Victoria, B.C.  Penny's long wait for a forever home has paid off for her!

Rusty was a PV pound rescue.  He was adopted from the pound by a woman who took him straight to the vet's office and never returned for him.  A fellow animal lover picked him up from the vet and we brought Rusty to Canada mid November and he was adopted by a couple in early December.  He will live the rest of his days as a very spoiled little boy!

Carlos was also rescued from the PV pound.  He was cute as can be, and very much a baby in need of love!  A couple who were on vacation in PV met Carlos, fell in love with his adorable face and he returned home with them in December.  Carlos is now a pampered pooch in White Rock!

Lucy is a sweet little gal, rescued from the PV pound.  Chelsea grew very attached to her and wanted to be sure she received her ride to Canada to find her forever home.  So when Chelsea came to Vancouver in mid December, she brought Lucy with her.  Lucy was adopted to a very nice couple in Vancouver who adore her!

Temblorina was rescued in November at a time when Chelsea had an overwhelming amount of rescues in her home.  As Chelsea drove along and saw her on the side of the road, shivering, very skinny and full of mats, she knew she had to do something.  After picking her up, Chelsea put out a plea for help and a fellow dog lover in PV kindly took Temblorina in and smothered her with love.  A woman who vacations in PV regularly met her and melted instantly.  Temblorina will fly home to Vancouver with her and settle into her new Canadian home!

DOGS RESCUED IN DECEMBER...

Picture
Brody was a stray, most likely dumped as he stumbled along the road scared and confused.  A friend saw him and as she approached him she noticed his coat was thin and irritated looking.  People nearby yelled at her to stop, telling her if she touched the 'diseased' dog she would get sick.  Knowing better, she ignored the people's comments and scooped Brody up.  He had a mild skin irritation due to the hot climate which he has been treated for.  He is a sweet guy who will hopefully come to Canada in late January.

Below - Mama Isla and Baby Lucca.  Chelsea met this mother and pup at a fellow rescue group's fundraiser.  A family who attended the event came to Chelsea and started telling her about this mother and pup who were living in a tire by the garbage near their home.  The family wanted to help the dogs, but could not take the dogs in.  Chelsea told the family she would help them and went to meet them.  Isla was a sweet and shy girl, in need of some good meals and some love to boost her confidence.  Lucca was less than a week old and his eyes were still closed.  After just a few weeks Isla is blossoming into a very loving and affectionate dog.  Lucca is growing more and more each day, and becoming a typical healthy puppy!!  We hope once Lucca is 8 weeks old to bring them to Canada and find them great forever homes!
Now onto 2010....  Most importantly this year we hope more people learn about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets.  As a result there will be less dogs roaming the streets and doing what they need to do just to survive another cruel day.
Happy New Year to you all and thank you so much for supporting us!!
Danielle, Chelsea and all the Meximutts!
